Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools held their May 2026 Prom recently, titled: “Neon Lights and Retro Nights”. A fun night of music, dancing and snacks for the Prom goers. The first two photos come from Betzee Holbrook... that’s her handsome son, third from the left, with his date and some of the other Prom attendees. He’s in the second photo also, as he was crowned King of the Prom, along with his date as the Queen of the Prom.

The next photo is from Mandy Koskiniemi Daniels, showing off some of the flashy suits and pretty dresses that were worn. The young lady, second from the right is Mandy’s beautiful daughter.

The last two photos come to us from Heather French who is the Prom advisor for the LLH Prom Committee... I’m not sure that’s her official title, but let’s just say she’s the one who makes sure the prom happens without any problems. And looking at the bottom photo, Heather’s probably the one that makes sure the gymnasium gets cleaned up and back in order for athletic events to take place. Heather is also the Art teacher and the Middle School/High School English Teacher at LLHS. It sure looks like everyone had a great time!

We now join Dear Old America for a look at “Growing UP in the 1970’s - 15 Things Kids Today Will Never Understand” and might actually terrify parents today . The lead-in says: “Before smartphones, social media, and safety warnings on everything… kids had real freedom. This video takes you back to the unforgettable days of growing up in the 70s—when riding in the back of station wagons without seatbelts was normal, when Saturday morning cartoons were sacred, and when your bike or Big Wheel was your ticket to adventure. If you remember recording songs off the radio, the smell of purple ditto copies at school, or playing outside until the streetlights came on—you were part of a generation that didn’t just survive childhood… you owned it. We’re celebrating the bold, wild, and unsupervised joys of 70s childhood. The kind of memories only kids from that era truly understand.”

Really nice pictures. Everybody looks awesome.
Those were the days. We had so much fun at prom. I
hope kids enjoy it as much as we did. This was my
granddaughters 3rd prom and she looked amazing
again. In Minnesota, afterwards, they all get on a
bus and go to a party where they can all stay safe.
Such a great idea. I don't know if they do that
here. They've been doing it out there since my kids
were in school. Such a great idea. Nice job, Lake
Linden.

Looks like a wonderful time at the prom!
Especially like the glowy fourth photo.

And how true is that video?
I recall my “car seat”, riding shotgun with Mom on a little
upholstered wooden bench.
No seat belts.

And playing frisbee out in the road. Now and then you’d have to
yell “CAR!” Lol

Hi
Some of that video reflected my experience, some not.
But it was spot-on about the basic attitude, that we
kids could just go play as long as we were back by
mealtimes. I remember riding in the bed of my
grandpa's pick-up; nowadays (some) people get upset
if a dog is riding loose back there. Here is a quote
from Bill Bryson's book "The Life and Times of the
Thuderbolt Kid":

"Happily, we were indestructible. We didn't need seat
belts, air bags, smoke detectors, bottled water or
the Heimlich maneuver. We didn't require child safety
caps on our medicines. We didn't need helmets when we
rode our bikes or pads on for our knees and elbows
when we went skating. We knew without a written
reminder that bleach was not a refreshing drink and
that gasoline when exposed to a match had a tendency
to combust."
