Greg Carrier from Drone 5-0 Photography was recently flying his DJI Air 3 drone in Marquette and captured two freighters at the LS&I Ore Dock in Marquette Harbor. That is the stern of the H. Lee White (on the left in the first photo) and the stern of the Wilfred Sykes (on the right in the first photo) with an amazing view of Middle Bay, with Middle Island Point and Middle Island off in the distance there. In the second photo you see the bow of both freighters with the Sykes on the left in this view and the White on the right.

Then in the third photo, you get a good look at the Wilfred Sykes, along with a view off in the distance again, the white mound type building is the Superior Dome – NMU stadium. I found the fourth photo interesting, showing the stern of the Sykes, which to me, looked a bit like the stern of a cruise ship with the second level opening like that. Pretty neat. The remaining two photos give us a better look at the H. Lee White, both the bow and then the stern. Great photography!

To keep with the freighter theme here today, we have a Master Salute from the James R. Barker and Captain Newland, recorded by Andrea Guerriero over at DRE Designs – Great Lakes Marine Products. At around 2:26 in the video, Captain Newland comes out of the Pilothouse and hollers “Hi Andrea!” How fun is that?

That is so cool...having the pilot yell at you!

Great pictures, that first photo had me puzzled for
a second, rarely do we see that pic from that angle
or from the rear. I thought.... that's not the Upper
Harbor, but after another pull on my sugar free
Mt.Dew I realized it was the back looking forward.
Can't wait to get back up to my home away from home,
Marquette!!

Yes, and again Mary, Happy Birthday.. yesterday!! I
think we should just make this whole week, your
birthday week!! Can I get an... OH YEAH!! :=))

Wonderful pictures. So glad to see them out and
about. Can't wait to see my first one

Hi
The Sykes is the older style Lakes freighter, with
the pilothouse in the bow. The White is the newer
style with everything in the stern. Great to see them
both, and to hear the Barker. I wonder how loud it
sounded to the crew; hopefully nobody was trying to
sleep.

Mary, hope you had a good birthday. UC, glad to hear
from you.

I had a stress test this morning, and was talking to
the woman who took my blood pressure. It turned out
she was from Crystal Falls.

What a great set of freighter photos and video!
From the link on PastyCam website’s BridgeCam page, it’s fun to
track the ships on MarineTraffic.com. Then sneak a live peek on
webcams where possible (like the Soo Locks, Mackinac Bridge, or
Marquette Harbor).

Cindy, I'm liking your input. Welcome! I like the
marine traffic too. Fun to watch where they'll be
and then take a drive around the peninsula to find
them.

Great Laker views!

Great salute from James R. Barker!

It's getting hard to compete in the photo market without a drone.
