If you’ve visited Presque Isle Park in Marquette, you may have seen the Albino/white deer in today’s photos snapped by Shannon over at 906 Images, but did you know they’re often referred to as “white ghosts”? They are quite unique and have been part of the local deer herd in the park since the 1980’s. Many folks consider seeing them a magical moment, since they’re somewhat rare. There’s actually a webpage dedicated to them, called Protect the Rare White Deer, where you can read about the history of the albino deer at Presque Isle Park and how they came to be there.

Here’s a brief excerpt from the beginning of the page; “It all started in the winter of 1981-82 when an albino buck began appearing in the Rapid River area about 60 miles southeast of Marquette. The buck could be seen on a regular basis along Hwy 2 east of Rapid River. People enjoyed watching the deer and began feeding him. Fears began to grow, though, that the animal could be hit by a car or poached, so residents petitioned the DNR to move the animal to a safer location. The DNR kindly obliged and the buck was tranquilized and successfully moved to a deer enclosure at Presque Isle Park, a 323-acre park located on a peninsula right next to the city of Marquette.” Click here to read the rest of the story: Protect the Rare White Deer

I don’t know about you, but I always get excited when I see that Visit Keweenaw has a new ‘Crossing Place’ video published. This one is called... Roaring Waters, Rich History: Eagle River Falls and features Sean Gohman, Executive Director of the Keweenaw Nationsl Historical Park Advisory Commission. The lead-in says: “Witness the breathtaking spectacle of Eagle River Falls in the heart of the Keweenaw Peninsula as spring unleashes its power. During the dramatic melting season, this historical waypoint transforms into a thunderous cascade, making it a prime Michigan spring travel destination. Beyond its natural grandeur, Eagle River stands as a testament to early industry and innovation, from its origins as a vital trade and copper mining hub to the pioneering spirit of Mary Blight, whose fuse factory was ingeniously powered by these very falls. Discover a unique blend of accessible natural beauty and rich historical narratives that define the Keweenaw's enduring charm.”

Hi
There is something about pure white creatures. I
remember a documentary about Lippizaner horses that had
a shot of the herd in the woods---almost unicorns.

Those of you who live near Eagle River have it good:
waterfalls, jam, and baked goods.

I echo Donna's plea to have more folks post. All too
often it's only DebS, Donna and me.

I'm with you guys. You look back at old pasty pages and it's so great with so many people posting. There are so many photographers that it surprises me when none of them post.

When you look back at some of the old Sundays, when
there was a pic, TONS of comments. I think folks
are getting itchy for Social Media....well, WE are
social!!

Come on in~ It's easy enough~!

I've tracked several YouTube videos that have been posted here. There is a noticeable increase in the number of views that day, indicating this site has many lurkers.
