Thanks to Shannon over at 906 Images, we get a glimpse into this brave soul’s preparations for taking advantage of Lake Superior’s wild waves to do a bit of surfing in the Presque Isle Park area in Marquette. The color of the water and the whitecaps make these scenes absolutely stunning. I am always surprised at the beauty of all the ‘faces’ of Lake Superior. It doesn’t matter if she’s stirred UP and raging or if she’s completely calm, with waters looking like a mirror, the Big Lake shows off her beauty always. It goes without saying, that you always have to respect Lady Superior no matter her mood, she’s not just a Lake, she’s considered an inland sea with the depths she reaches and the height of the waves Superior produces. Not something for the faint of heart to undertake, but this guy seems well prepared.

Shannon shares what he describes as ‘one of the craziest sunsets he’s ever seen on Lake Superior, recorded at Presque Isle Park. Just look at the rings around the setting sun as the camera zooms in on the sunset. Gorgeous and not something you see every day when the sun goes down. Nice capture!

Hi
As you say, Mary, the colors are wonderful. I
particularly like the second photo.

With regard to the inland sea, so are the other Great
Lakes. The NPR radio show "Stateside" had a story about
the shipwrecks in an underwater preserve near Alpena.
One of the women researchers had come from California,
and was expecting something more the size of Lake
Tahoe. As she was flying in, she was awestruck to find
that you can't see to the other side of Lake Huron.

I love the Cove pic and that sunset is just
spectacular!!

One of my buddies stopped by yesterday, and said
how cold it was outside. She said she talked to
another fella in here, and he told her "We are
having a mild winter"....did I laugh.
