Judy Byykkonen really enjoys getting out in nature here in the Keweenaw and seeks out places to explore. Last week one day, she decided to go check out the Hungarian Falls in the Hubbell/Tamarack City area. She said it is a challenging hike right now with snow and ice still on much of the trail, but still well worth it, though. If we continue to get warmer temperatures it won’t be long before the trail ice and snow will be melted, which will make the hike to the falls much easier.
Now we join Suyeon Griffin (Broken English Hiker) for a hike to another falls in the area, the Houghton Douglass Falls on M-26 between Lake Linden and Calumet. It is Michigan’s tallest waterfall, plunging 110 feet down a scenic gorge. Suyeon recorded this around mid April as she hiked through the woods from the railroad trestle in Lake Linden.

Ice out in the Spring is a great time. I wish I could experience it again.
With some warmer temps, from the MTU web cam I've noticed some sunbathers are starting to return as well as many others relaxing. This water skier surely heralds the birthing of Spring.
The 2nd photo was a bit unnerving. Any ideas?
Whoever is responsible for maintaining this section of dock, I wonder though why it's been almost a year with no action yet.
