One of Donna MacIntosh’s favorite past-times is checking out the webcams on the Michigan Tech website. She recently captured some shots from the Ski Hill Camera showing a big machine with plows on both ends, pushing snow around and she wondered what was going on. After a bit of digging on the Internet, I found that the machine is a PistenBully snow groomer, which is a specialized vehicle used to maintain ski slopes and snowmobile trails. Then we figured out what was going on...this past Sunday, Mont Ripley had their “Slush Pit” party to say goodbye to another season at the ski hill, their final hurrah!

We featured a video of the Slush Pit back in March 2024, from In The Keweenaw. You can click on this link to watch it again, here: March 16, 2024. Just scroll down through the photos to get to the video.

In the meantime, we join Visit Keweenaw on their Keweenaw Snowfall/Waterfall Updates video. The lead-in says: “The season where winter and spring work in tandem is a truly peak Michigan experience — snow, sun, fun, and falls all make true refreshment!”

That was so interesting to watch that huge machine
while it built the pit (that you could not see from
the camera). Then Mary found the slosh pit video,
and watching it later, there sure was a crowd, and
you could see the people coming out of the pit,
that made it across! Sometimes you find fun stuff
to watch!

Mount Bohemia lifts stay OPEN Saturdays and
Sundays (9:30am-5pm) through Mother’s Day Weekend

Nordic Spa remains OPEN 7 days/week (noon-
midnight)

Mont Ripley is CLOSED for the season

Cross Country Trails are still being groomed as
able! Reports from clubs and users still are
positive and full of Keweenaw splendor!

Hi
I wonder whether even the natives are getting tired
of "winter activities" as the video put it?

Today is April Fool's Day, and I was remembering a
couple of Pasty Cam posts that had had me do a double
take. One was of giant blue ice cliffs purportedly at
the Straits of Mackinac (actually they were near
Antartica). Another one was of someone sitting in a
camp chair ankle deep in water. It was plainly still
cold out, from the person's clothing; seen from back,
the guy was looking at something through binoculars.
The posts speculating as to what was going on were
very entertaining.

Cool pictures, Donna. I'd love to go there and
watch this happening some day.

I wonder when the falls will be open. More snow
coming tomorrow. And that's no joke.
