Isaac Diener captured a couple beautiful shots of the Aurora Borealis last week. I love the first photo, with the colors of the lights shooting UP into the night, but the second shot of the bright green in the sky is maybe why they’re also called Northern Lights. You can even see the reflection and shadows on the snow, as if the sun was shining. It must have been pretty bright there on the Maasto Hiihto trails in Hancock when Isaac took these two photos.

The third photo was snapped by Jeff Dennis out at Little Traverse Bay. He said that he didn’t want to close his eyes while watching the deer on the beach, with that beautiful green Aurora Borealis sky. The deer seem to be oblivious to the light show happening above them, they’re more interested in the eating and watching Jeff.

We’re back with Kristin Ojaniemi and Discovering, episode 175, Identifying Animal Tracks in the Snow. The lead-in says: “A day in the woods surveying and identifying animal tracks in the snow with expert woodsman and trapper, Joe Allen. The snow was deep and there was a crust on it but Joe could still tell tracks based on size and stride. We found tracks of 13 different species you can find in the Upper Peninsula forests.”

Wow! Stunning! That 2nd picture with the deep green
is my favorite. But I love the deer picture, too. I
always love seeing deer and then to have them with
those northern lights makes it even better.

Hi
Both aurora pictures are good, but like DebS I like #2
a little better. The light reflects on the snow in that
one.

Deer run into cars, eat flowers and crush my rhubarb by
bedding down on it. I know, I know, we here downstate
haven't left them much room so of course they show up
in our yards and roads. But I'm not a fan.

How incredibly gorgeous....what time are you out
there? WOWOWOWOW!!! They are all glorious! What a
green on Jeff's picture. WOW! And I'm sure the deer
have seen the lights everytime...

I watched a video about a white bear telling salmon
to "look to the Heavens, and keep swimming". An
awesome story!~

And I love Discovering. This gent could even tell
the sex of the animal by the track. Amazing!

By Ron Lauzon (Rlauzon) on Sunday, March 29, 2026 - 04:17 pm:

So Eino, Toivo and Muskie were out hunting and they
see some tracks.

Eino: Dose look like deer tracks.
Toivo: No, no. Dose are moose tracks.
Muskie: Youse both are wrong, dose are...

But before Muskie could finish they were all hit by
a train.
