Diane Richard was in Marquette after the big blizzard and captured some sun, clouds, blue skies, clear ice and even some white, vertical ice. That’s quite an array of captures. The Lower Harbor Ore Dock makes quite a scene with the blue sky peeking out of the clouds and the snow-less ice reflecting the dock in the Harbor. Then Diane spotted an icy coating on a tree there, with vertical icicles pointing which way the wind was blowing during the blizzard. Pretty unique!

The third photo, Diane actually snapped in L’Anse, before the storm began. I don’t think you can get a Sundog photo any more perfect than this one. It’s absolutely stunning!

We’re going to wrap UP this day with the latest Crossing Place video from Visit Keweenaw. A Century on Skates: The Calumet Colosseum. The lead-in says: “Step inside the Calumet Colosseum, North America’s longest continuously used ice arena, where over a century of hockey, skating, and community echoes off every board. Opened in 1914, this historic rink has hosted Gibson Cup rivalries, local legends, and even an NHL preseason game with the Red Wings and Blues. In 2019, the town’s passion was recognized when Calumet won Kraft Hockeyville USA, a testament to a community that keeps its roots strong. Through generations, the Keweenaw has held fast to tradition while still welcoming adult skates, local leagues, roller derby, and community events. Here, hockey isn’t just a game—it’s Calumet’s living story.”

Hi
I always enjoy seeing the Marquette Ore Dock.

I admire the skating skill of hockey players. As a kid,
I ice-skated on lakes and ponds, not all that
skillfully. As an adult, I tried skaing on indoor
rinks. These had much smoother/slipperier ice, which
mainly caused me to fall.

Outstanding pictures and a fantastic video. I remember when the
Red Wings played up there. Sure would like to be seeing the lower
upper Harbor in Marquette right now as well!

I just spoke to Mary, quick update if you’re interested, I’m in the
cardiovascular center at U Of. M and my surgery is scheduled for
Saturday morning. Not looking forward to a long and painful
recovery, but it is what it is and I hope to be back in the Copper
country later this summer or early fall. As you all know, the Copper
country is my motivation, take care for now talk to you soon! UC
