Nancy Haun captured these shots of what folks call, Third Bridge, located between Baraga and L’Anse on a beautiful, calm morning. You can see the ice floes are breaking UP and starting to move, so that must mean Spring can’t be too far away. I was interested in the historical information and facts about this bridge, so I did a little “digging” on the Internet and came up with this info: This bridge is historically significant as an early surviving state standard pony truss bridge. The bridge retains excellent historic integrity and is essentially unaltered. The bridge is located on an alignment of US-41 that was officially abandoned by the highway department and is today a private driveway. The architects/builders were Northwestern Bridge and Iron Company, Smith-Sparks Construction Company and the State Highway Department. The main span length is 80 feet, the structure length is 81 feet, the roadway width is 18 feet and the structure width is 21 feet.
Nancy’s bottom photo was snapped at her “Honderosa” after her hubby brought a fresh round bale of hay for the deer that they feed. She said you could smell the sweet alfalfa in that big bale and that’s what the deer like, so hopefully this will keep them fed again for a while. She counted 45 deer in their yard just the other day, so keeping them fed and healthy with the storms we’ve been having is really important. Thanks for doing that, Nancy and Jim.
That’s the Railroad Bridge over the Falls River in L’Anse for today’s video. Nancy recorded the Spring breakup about a week or so ago and it sure looks like the river is flowing strong. Mother Nature can throw more storms and snow at us, but Spring will come no matter what! At least I hope so...

Hi
I like the third photo titled "Ice Breaking Up". This
is the time of year when the difference between the UP
& downstate is the most marked for me. We have no snow
cover here; I walked by a little creek with a good flow
but no ice; frogs were singing & crocus are up. You
guys will get there---we're only a couple of Sundays
from Easter.
