If you’re not out on the ice fishing when the sun is setting, the next best thing is to capture it all from Sand Point overlooking Munising Bay. What a beautiful capture by Kevin Dunham with these first two shots. In the top photo, you can just barely see the fishermen, so Kevin zoomed in to catch them inside the glow of the setting sun.

Back at his birdfeeding station in Munising, Kevin brings us a variety of his latest visitors. That Evening Grosbeak and the Pine Grosbeak, seem to me having a heated conversation, perhaps about who has the rights to the yummy birdseed. Then that Red-Bellied Woodpecker looks to be all business coming in for a landing. I think the Male Cardinal might be my favorite shot of the day... I never noticed before that there is a perfect black square around his beak like that. Quite unique!

In the bottom photo, Kevin commented to check out the “herculean” effort of that Black-Capped Chickadee taking flight carrying that peanut almost as big as he is. Maybe he has to take it with him in order to eat it in peace before he gets chased away by the other birds.

Kristin Ojaniemi from Discovering, shares Episode 174 today, with lots of smiling faces from hundreds of kids. The lead-in says: “A day at the Curtis Winter Carnival and Kids Fish Coop that was held in February - hundreds of kids, thousands of dollars in prizes, and a ton of fun. I even participated in the Women's High Roller Tournament! And while in Curtis we spent a day ice fishing on South Manistique Lake from the comfort of a sleeper shack, and John Rahn of Yooper Outdoors 906 showed us the quickest and easiest way to fillet a northern pike.”

Colorful set in. It sure beats white all of the time.
The pictures of the birds were fantastic.
Thanks to all the contributors.

Omgosh! These are amazing. I didn't have to read
Mary's description to know these were Kevin's
photos. Outstanding, as always. I would love to
live where you live. That little chickadee wasn't
going to let anybody deter him. He was gonna have
that peanut. And how nice to see so much color.

Amen Deb...you just have to see one picture and
you know who's handiwork it is! PHENOMENAL pics,
as always, and the close up of the ice fisher is
just GLORIOUS!!!

And those little chickadees always grab their food
and fly off to crack the shell...I lived in one
place, where they all flew off to one tree to do
so. What a mess in the Spring!

I LOVE this Discovering Episode. Kristin is so
wonderful with those kiddos...asking how many fish
they caught, are they eating them, etc...she makes
them feel like they are the most important person
in the world at that moment. I adore it so much~

And the dude filleting pike is just a master at
that job. He makes it look so easy and his little
helper is phenomenal!!

Hi
The chickadee making off with a peanut reminds me of an
old,old song called "High Hopes" where an ant was able
to move a rubber tree plant just because of its
attitude. Also, I don't know if it's a myth but I'd
heard that based on the math it should be impossible
for bees to fly--but they do anyway.

It doesn't get much better than a lone, sunny afternoon on the ice.

And those are great bird shots, especially since there was no sunlight on the overcast day.

Happy Pi Day!
