What would we do without Nancy Haun and the captures she shares of the train comings and goings in the L’Anse area and beyond. Her first two photos today are of “Godzilla”... that’s what she calls the BIG plow in the photos, that comes to plow the tracks. On this day it was just arriving and headed into Certainteed. It’s definitely a Big boy plow!

The snow covered tracks photo was snapped last week. Nancy said there had been no train and no plowing in Herman or on the L’Anse Hill. Others mentioned seeing the train in Champion, but it did not go as far as L’Anse. Nancy figured the deep snow that week may have been a factor.

The Canadian National in the fourth picture was on its way to Summit. It had brought the Godzilla plow when it came in and then took back a few gondola cars (open-top freight cars with low sides). And the bottom photo is in Bovine, where Nancy was all set up waiting for the Canadian National to arrive. If you look closely, she has a plastic bag over her camera on the tripod, as it was a mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow that day. Spring is just around the corner, right?

Nancy’s video is the Canadian National southbound UP the L’Anse Hill, complete with the whistle blowing. You’ve gotta love the echo of the horn... someone commented that there’s something utterly romantic about the sound of a freight train. I have to admit, it is quite mesmerizing.

Nancy doesn’t miss a trick, a train track trick that is.
Another good set!
