Beth Jukuri, her daughter Abigail Larson & little Arnie recently got out for a morning Hok Ski. Beth said her grandson Arnie loves being outside, free to walk and run, but he also enjoys a ride, courtesy of his Mom, when they head out on the trails. In case you aren’t familiar with Hok Skis, they are a short, wide backcountry ski that blends snowshoe maneuverability with cross country ski gliding. They’re ideal for woods and rolling terrain, with steel edges for control and climbing skins for great uphill traction. You can see from Beth and Abigail’s photos that they all enjoy the time together outside, including Louie, Abigail’s dog, who looks like he’s taking a break on the trail, waiting for the rest of the family to catch up.

Now we head to Ripley with Visit Keweenaw, to check out the terrain at Michigan’s oldest ski area, Mont Ripley. The lead in says: “Mont Ripley delivers the kind of Michigan skiing you don’t forget. Think glacier-carved terrain groomed to perfection, clean natural lines through the trees, race-ready pitches, rail features, tubing lanes, and dependable lake-effect powder rolling in off Lake Superior. Mont Ripley is Michigan’s oldest ski area and a cornerstone of Keweenaw ski culture - shaped by mining-era roots, Nordic-inspired Yooper heritage, and generations of families and Huskies from Michigan Technological University. Five minutes from downtown Houghton or Hancock and you’re on the lift. Ten minutes after your last run, you’re settling into après ski. From champagne powder mornings to Winter Carnival torchlight parades and sunsets over the Portage Canal, this is where winter holds on a little longer in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.”

Hi
I can see little Arnie's smiling eyes in the photo
captioned "Loving the Outdoors". It also looks like
Louie is no fool, letting his humans break trail in the
second photo.

Earlier this week, the webcam at Sunset Bay Campground caught this skier.

More Sun, less snow.
