It’s always a day to celebrate when Donna MacIntosh gets sprung from her apartment, even if it’s just for a doctor appointment. (HI LOU! And ERIC, too) Donna said she has a friend in Australia who has never seen snow and just can’t believe how much snow we get, plus a cousin in Detroit who hasn’t ever seen this much of the white stuff, so she made sure to snap photos around Hancock and Houghton to show some of the accumulations we’ve gotten so far. And don’t forget, it’s only February 3rd, so we’re bound to get more, as we always get a few dandy storms in February, March and even April... yikes! It could be a record breaking season.
We have a recent Keweenaw Snow Update, from Amanda at Visit Keweenaw, dated January 28th, so just be aware, we have gotten more snow since then. The lead-in says: “Keweenaw Snow Update: nearing the 200" mark for the 2025/2026 season! The lake effect snow keeps on falling–but we're on top of it! Snow statues, snow plows, and snowy saunas - that's January in the Copper Country!”
Yooper Steve has an update a day later than Amanda’s. You can check that out here (You may have to click on the speaker icon on the top left of the video, to turn on the sound): January 29 Update
(At publication time this morning the big snow thermometer on US-41 stands at 216.75”)

Hi It's been a rare stretch of winter weather down here in Jackson, in that we've had snow on the ground for weeks. And powder, and enough to ski on.
The part of the video when Amanda noted the snowbanks were taller than her car made me remember something that happened to me. I was living in Kalamazoo during the blizzard of '78. There were big packed snowbanks on the sides of the road after the streets had been cleared. I was skiing on top of them when my pole made a "tunk" noise. I realized I was skiing on top of a car.

Nice shots. That first picture really shows just how much snow there is. Glad you got out to enjoy some of the winter weather, Donna.

It’s definitely been a snowy start and I wonder how it will effect the lake levels.
