I cannot imagine how many miles Nancy Haun puts on capturing the trains she loves to follow. Today’s first photo was last week at the LS&I Marquette Ore Dock, where she says that the Kaye E. Barker and the Hon. James L. Oberstar were together again there at the dock. A jet even flew over at one point and the train was up on the dock preparing to load the freighters with their cargo. Nancy said it was just amazing to see these giant boats that ply the waves, in person and she never tires of it. From what I could find, I think the locks may have closed up on January 15th this week. So we won’t be seeing any freighter traffic until March again.

Same goes for the trains she captured in the L’Anse area, she never tires of that, either. In the second photo, the LS&I came in so silently that Nancy almost didn’t catch it, but her hubby, Jim was on the ball and captured a photo of Nancy capturing the train on video, crossing the Rihinen Road. How fun is that?

The third photo is of the shove move into Certainteed in L’Anse. A shove move is a railroad operation where a locomotive pushes cars into or through a yard, requiring extreme caution as there are risks of conductor injury from fouling tracks, obstacles or grade crossings. It’s a hazardous task demanding heightened awareness.

The video is what Nancy was capturing, when her husband, Jim was taking her photo. At the end of the video, he says he thought he was taking a video, but he did get two photos. Nancy replies that pictures are good. I agree, as it was neat to see a picture of Nancy, even if it is just from behind. Good job, Jim!

Two of my favorite things are trains and
freighters. Thanks for getting them both. When we
go up the hill behind our house, I still miss
seeing the trains running through there. Those were
the days. Not it's snowmobiles and 4 wheelers up
there. My two favorites are the first and last
pictures. Your photos never disappoint, Nancy.
