Kevin Dunham might just be a ‘bird whisperer’, because he always seems to get the birds to pose for him at his feeding station in Munising. He said that close-up photo of the Blue Jay with its top notch feathers all fluffed UP, pretty much sums up how it feels about the amount of snow that has fallen so far this winter. It’s quite a fun photo and someone commented that Kevin could probably take a picture of any one of us and it would look pretty similar... that’s funny and accurate at the same time. Blue Jays stick around all winter, so they’re pretty adaptable birds and one of the few that the male and female are almost identical. You can always tell when they’re around, because they are quite vocal, too.

MI Playground said that Bird Photography is a new hobby of theirs. Nick says it sometimes feels like the birds are participating in the shoot, other times, not so much. This is my favorite line from the video: “Like she gave me a second of her time”. The birds often do seem like they’re pausing to try and figure out what we’re doing, so it seems like they’re posing for the shot!

In that first pic of Mr Blue Jay it certainly looks as if he's had enough of winter already, and it's only half-past January.

I used to buy bags of peanuts and throw them in
the yard....the grass would turn blue...that was
always so amazing...

Blue Jays are easily identified by sight and by
their calls. I can't say I like the in-your-face
photo...but interesting nonetheless.
