Michelle Lutke and Brett Biggers headed to Canyon Falls, just south of L’Anse on US41 recently, for an adventure hiking in to see the falls surrounded by winter. Michelle said this has always been a favorite of hers in the winter and you can see why from her photos. She said the roadside park is closed for the season, but you can still park in front of the gate and hike in from there. The path is usually packed down, as there are enough people that go there, even in the winter, but take snowshoes along just in case. The water is still flowing, but much of the waterfall is frozen over. Michelle said it’s a gorgeous hike, following the Sturgeon River and if you’re feeling really adventurous, you can continue down the North Country Trail past the main waterfall for even more amazing views.
Today’s video is also at Canyon Falls... Michelle commented that the cold fresh air felt great! So neat to hear the water flowing and see it swirling around at the base of the falls. You can see more of Michelle and Brett’s photography and adventures here: Wandering Michigan

Hi When I was a lot younger, one winter my parents and I went cross-country skiing at Tahquamenon Falls. Below the falls we got down to the river and went out on it, skiied close but not too close to the falls. No, the story does not end in a dunking; the ice was solid enough. But a unique experience.
