You never know what you’ll see on the Michigan Tech webcams...Don Afman (a.k.a. D.A. Midwested) was checking out the Mont Ripley Ski Hill webcam recently and happened to catch a red fox posing on the picnic table there. Rumor is that this guy has been seen around campus, too. Nice catch Don!

Just about the same time Don sent me his fox capture, I spotted one that Nancy Haun had seen on the bank of Hazel Creek, just before the Baraga Campgrounds. She said he was close to US41, too. It looks like Nancy could have reached out to pet this guy. What a great shot!

Then Nancy headed to check out things at the Bishop Baraga Shrine, but stopped for a photo coming around the head of Keweenaw Bay, where there’s a good view of the Bishop in the trees, especially in the winter months when the leaves are down. To get the photo of the Bishop in the snow, Nancy had to trudge through some deep snow (see video for more info about that). Her last shot was looking down the L’Anse North – Canadian National tracks by the Shrine. So pretty with the snow covering the trees like that.

Nancy said a stop at the Shrine is a must whenever she is in town. So carrying two cameras and no walking stick, she began to make her way through the deep snow. It would have been perfect snowshoe weather, but she didn’t have hers along. She actually took a spill in the snow during the videoing and knew it was a mistake not to have taken a walking stick, but injuries, thank goodness. She said the photo of the Shrine here above was snapped right after her tumble. Nice recovery, Nancy!

Nice pics, Don!
A Foxy Lady, no doubt.
And Nancy is one gutsy
Lady venturing out in
the in the snow like that.

Hi
The picnic table was probably a good place for the
fox to scope out the surroundings, but it is a cute
shot. The expression on the fox in the close-up is
interesting--very focused on something.

Now I have seen it all...a fox on that picnic
table! How awesome! I've watched kids swimming, men
fishing, boats boating, but that's the first
critter I have seen there! GREAT catch Don!
(almost as good as you waving! lol)

The second fox looks like something happened to his
leg?

The most fortunate are those who have a wonderful
capacity to appreciate again and again, freshly and
naively, the basic goods of life, with awe,
pleasure, wonder and even ecstasy.

Nice pictures! I just love foxes. They're so
pretty. Nice pictures of the bishop, too.

That was a short but difficult trek for Nancy. If she'd been carrying a drink, it looks like not one drop would have lost during her spill.

It seems Red Fox are acclimating to "us" as well as the Coyote.

Here's a pic of me waving to Donna. When I was in town late last summer I called her while I was relaxing in the "restricted" area.
