We start the New Year – 2026, with beautiful winter scenes from three different photographers, starting with a sunrise on the shores of Lake Superior in Marquette, from Bob Fleury. I love how even the sand in the icicles is captured, along with the sun just rising above a bank of clouds on Lake Superior. Golden beauty!
Our next photographer is Fred Koski, from Fred Koski Photography. He snapped these snow-covered trees in between Three Lakes and Michigamme, on the Spurr River. Nature “flocks” the trees in the winter quite beautifully, while Fred preserves them perfectly!
Last, but not least, Stacey Flood shares a photo of snow-capped winterberries. She said she likes to cut these red berries and use them for décor on her porch. They are actually a species of holly that is native to eastern North America and also called Michigan Holly. Mildly poisonous for humans, but a vital source of food for birds and wildlife. Stacey’s capture looks like a beautiful holiday card!
We head out to Bucky’s (a.k.a. Calumet Waterworks Park) with Debbie Jarve for a short video of Lake Superior calm waters and a quick look at the Ice Volcanoes that are forming out there now. It’s rare to have no sound coming from the Big Lake and so quiet you can hear the clicks and sounds of Debbie’s camera in the video. The quiet side of Superior.
Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!
