Chris Hendra from Chris Hendra Photography, was out in his photography blind when he spotted these two deer...this years button buck and last years button buck, checking each other out. He said they didn’t get very serious but it was interesting to watch them. Someone commented that it reminded them of the Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer movie scene when Rudolph and his friends first started to play the reindeer games. Kind of like teenage boys wrestling for fun, young bucks do so, to develop the muscles and skills they will need if they ever have to actually fight during breeding season. Interesting, indeed and I bet it was fun to watch them at play like that.

We have the latest Crossing Place video from Visit Keweenaw – Generations Behind the Counter: Copper World. It is truly a family affair...the lead-in says: “Three generations of the Bassano family have grown up behind the counters of Copper World, where the scent of homemade fudge mingles with aisles of Copper Country treasures—from custom shirts and locally written books to quirky, Yooper-humor keepsakes that make you grin and spark fond memories. Since 1974, this Calumet mercantile has welcomed visitors like old friends, guiding them to hidden corners of the Copper Country, sharing stories of miners and pioneers, and helping travelers uncover family roots or simply delight in a sweet treat. More than a shop, Copper World is a living thread of community and memory—a place where the past is tangible, the welcome is warm, and every visitor becomes part of the story.”

Deer are the cutest!

Was just at Copper World on Wednesday. Such a great
store.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

Happy take back
unwanted gifts day!
Very little bucks means
very little doe so make
sure you get all your
money back.
And a nice store in
the video. I hope it
lasts another 51 years.
With internet shopping,
it’s not going to be easy.

Hi
I spent part of Christmas Day at a not-quite local
park, where the small birds are bold enough to
land on you and feed from seeds in your hand. I
saw tuffted titmice (down, Alex), chickadees,
downy woodpeckers and one nuthatch.

Happy Boxing Day. Back in old England the servants
had to work on Christmas. So the day after
Christmas was when the servants got to enjoy their
Christmas. Why it's called Boxing Day I don't
know. But it fits as a name for a day that you
gather up boxes of (unwanted) gifts to take them
wherever. If anybody is doing any travelling I
wish them safe travels.

Awesome pictures, and indeed...practicing for the
big day(s)....

That is one awesome store. My sis brings me some of
the BEST Hazelnut coffee on the planet, AND she'll
bring me some of those homemade turtles. Now, I've
eaten my share of turtles in my lifetime, but the
VERY BEST have been from Copper World...they are
fabulous!

I got my hubby some fudge from Copper World for his
stocking. He was pretty excited. And I got him a
cute shirt too. I love that store. My granddaughter
has to get a sweatshirt every time she's UP for a
visit.

Merry Christmas to all.

Tis' a little late for the season of the rut.
Or... just the boys out having some fun.

I bought my first piece of float copper at Copper World many decades ago. Pretty sure it's quintupled in value. They have a substantial inventory of all gifts - copper related.

For several years my Mom was inundated with Christmas, Mother’s Day and Birthday gifts all made from copper, all useful house-ware items or pieces of art (or so I thought at the time). I didn’t need to go to Copper World as there was a very nice gift shop in downtown Houghton. It’s no longer there. I think it started with an “H” and on the north side of Sheldon Ave.

Today, my first stop for rocks is Prospector’s Paradise in Allouez. They have the biggest and best inventory and some real bargains too. He’s been dramatically filling up his space.
