When it comes to capturing UP-close photos of birds, Kevin Dunham gets the shots every time. His photography skills are quite amazing, always seeming to freeze-frame those feathered friends and their antics perfectly. Today he treats us to a female Pileated Woodpecker hanging out in the tree. It’s hard to tell, but these Woody Woodpecker birds are quite large, about the size of a crow and one of the biggest forest birds around. The male looks much the same, except he has a red stripe on his cheek and the red crown extends all the way to his bill, where the female’s stops at the top of the head. These large birds are quite a treat to see!

Kevin’s last two photos of the Blue Jay are something else, especially the close-up...it looks like he’s staring right into the lens of the camera and I think he means business, so watch out! I love the little smattering of snow on the top of his bill in the bottom photo. I’m sure it must have fallen off when he flew away.

What a fun video today from Brian and Heather Outdoors, titled – “Iditarod or bust with this Boston Terrier Sled Dog Team. Their Boston Terriers are giving that little girl a fun adventure on her toboggan and it looks like they love it as much as she does.

Hi
Pileated Woodpeckers are impressive. If you miss
seeing the bird itself, they leave large rectangular
holes where they peck that are distinct evidence of
their presence.

Our one & only family dog was an Alaskan Malamute; I
think her tail was as long as one of the Boston
Terriers. The little guys do seem willing.

I love Pileated Woodpeckers. When we first moved
here, we saw them so often. Now we never see them.
Great pictures!

AWESOME pictures..WTG Kevin....I love the
Woodpeckers...they are actually a bit bigger than a
crow....and you know when you hear them call! If
they are pecking on something...know there's bugs
in it.

That video is just awesome. What a great time for
that little girl!

Interesting set!
The third pic looks
like Joaquin Phoenix
in “The Joker”.
The fourth one
looks like it’s wearing
a fur coat. Probably
an early Xmas present.
And I would title the
video; “Bostarod”.
