Snowy, cold days means Lake Superior is icing UP. H Donn de Yampert captured a few shots with his drone, of the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse recently. If you look closely in the first two photos, you can see him standing by the fence in front of the Lighthouse. The contrast in color of the first two photos is interesting, too, along with the ice that is surrounding the Harbor in front of the Lighthouse. And then there’s the Beacon photo. Pretty neat to see the top of the Lighthouse close-up with the catwalk and the light shining. Nice job Donn!

Since we’re on a Lighthouse subject today, I thought it would be a good time to share the latest video from Alexis Dahl – Life at the Loneliest Place on Earth – Stannard Rock. The lead-in says: “Stannard Rock has been called the loneliest place in the world — and for good reason. Recently, they let me inside, and I learned that the future of this place is even brighter than expected. Special thanks to Jeff Koch and the Superior Watershed Partnership for the tour of Stannard Rock, and for the extensive historical photos and reports they provided! If you want to join them in restoring the building, you can find their fundraiser here: Stannard Rock Lighthouse fundraiser Special thanks as well to Joe Gall for donating the beautiful drone and underwater shots!”

Cool pictures of my favorite lighthouse UP here.
Love the lighted beacon.

Great shots! The first looks like a Christmas card. Thanks Donn!

What beautiful shots...I love the lens up close..

Alexis does it again! I love her videos...she
brings you so much...yesterday, today and tomorrow!
It's just so awesome. Imagine back in the day, when
lighthouses had people living in them!

Hi
There are quite a few lighthouses in the Straits
area. There are two on land near Mackinaw City, one
on St. Helena Island and one on the north side of
Bois Blanc Island. But there are quite a few out in
the water, near reefs. Some, like the Poe Reef light
out in front of my cabin, are relatively close to
shore. But there is one, Spectacle Reef lighthouse,
that is pretty far out in Lake Huron, about 18 miles
east of Cheboygan, Michigan. I'd think conditions
there would also be challenging.

Nice set and I feel
more enlightened
after watching it.

Hi
Alex, "enlightened" is one of your more subtle puns.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, December 15, 2025 - 05:11 pm:

Enlightened brought a smile to my face, also.
