While the rest of us were hunkered down in our homes, Shannon, from over at 906 Images was out in the elements of the blizzard capturing amazing photos and a spectacular video of Lake Superior crashing 20’ waves against Blackrocks in the Marquette area. For perspective, that ledge of rocks in most of the photos here, is about 15’ off the water’s surface normally. Those are some huge splashes of waves against and over those rocks. The second photo shows how big the waves that were rolling in were, too. And how about the 5th photo? I didn’t get to ask Shannon, but I’m guessing he got a bit wet from that spray, but then again, he probably dresses for just such a occasion. Pretty amazing to see the power of the Big Lake like this.
Check out Shannon’s video... he says it’s a better view from the storm. He also mentions checking out the size of the waves rolling in and crashing on the famous Blackrocks. Make sure you watch it till the end to see some of the spray close-up!

Break out the soap and the shampoo. I don’t see any surfers; these waves are a little too gnarly.

WOW! Just checking... Shannon and his camera are still with us? A couple of those shots look lethal!

The last time Bob & I saw waves like these we were sitting on our snowmobiles parked on the east side of Lake Superior watching a lake effect snow storm move in.
