In case you haven’t heard, the we had a dandy winter storm, a blizzard in fact, with wind gusts up to 50 mph from Wednesday, Thursday and into Friday last week, that dumped upwards of 2 feet on us here in the Keweenaw. It was the wet, heavy snow, that broke tree branches and pulled down power lines. Jeff Dennis has some photos of the trees down and the snowy conditions.

The first photo is the Maple Tree in Jeff’s yard. The huge branch that broke off took out part of their fence, too. Jeff said they’re sad because the tree held many memories with their kids underneath it for shade in the summer, first day of school photos were always under that tree, too. They ended up cutting the whole tree down, due to more damage happening later down the road.
The next photo is on the Rice Lake Road Thanksgiving morning, one of a number of trees that were across the road there and you can see in Jeff’s photo, the power lines this one took down with it.
The next photo was snapped on Paradise Lane, just off Rice Lake Road. That’s Chris walking Fritz in the midst of the blizzard. You can see how blustery it was.
Next is a beautiful photo of the snow accumulated on the trees, a Winter Wonderland for sure and it came in with a blast in just over 2 days.
Jeff’s bottom photo is a beauty! He said he realized that all his pictures lately have been of trees. This happy little tree all decorated for the holiday season is located on Paradise Lane in Torch Lake Township.

Today’s video comes to us from Dreamland Restaurant & Bar in Bootjack. It shows all the power company trucks in their parking lot, as the crews that worked so hard through the night to get the power back on for all of us, from Bootjack, Rabbit Bay, Mud Lake, Rice Lake Road and Jacobsville. These workers had stopped there for a meal, paid for by their company. They were from UPPCO, Asplund and CC Power Company from Kalkaska, Michigan. We all can not say Thank You enough to these crews, working in blizzard conditions for days to get power back up and running. My home was without power for 29 hours, some folks were over 50 hours without power, so we truly appreciate these crews. Check out Dreamland’s Facebook page here: Dreamland Restaurant & Bar

I guess seeing those power lines down tells us why
there was no power out there for so many hours.
Good for Fritz, making sure his pet got her
exercise for the day. And that lighted tree is
absolutely beautiful.

Hi
Hope things get cleaned up for you all soon. We
"only" had 6.5 inches here in Jackson MI.

As part of the segment on the weather, one of the TV
stations here will give recommendations on
conditions for yardwork or dog walking. I can see
putting off yardwork; but as anyone who's had a dog
knows, you do have to take them out regardless. I
think they'd have given a Red Paw for Fritz's dog
walking weather.

All beautiful pics, the fourth one reminds me of
some serious adventures we used to take late at
night after studying for hours at NMU!! Yeah
right.... lol but the spontaneous trip were plenty
of fun. Now when we do it, we have all the
necessary provisions, safety items and a chainsaw
and wenches if we get stuck, back then it was just
plenty of cold beverages and something stuffed
under the seat when you needed a "warm-up". :=))

Way to go power crews!! A much deserved break, you
keep us all going with the utilities we take for
granted until they're stopped due to those weather
conditions and whatever else stops them
temporarily!!
