Since Debbie Jarve retired, she doesn’t get to Houghton as much as she used to when she worked there on the waterfront, so recently when she had the opportunity she couldn’t pass up the glass-like calmness of the Portage Lake Canal waters. She snapped these beautiful, late fall reflections to share with us all. Those deep, dark fall colors dotting the lakefront and duplicated in the ripple-less waters are striking to say the least. It’s not that often that you can snap photos that can be turned upside down and you’d have a hard time telling which way is really up and which is the reflection. Quite wonderful!
Now we join In The Keweenaw for a look at an early November sun setting over the Portage Lake Lift Bridge and the Hancock area. Fun to see the lights of the street and the cars heading onto the bridge, but also a bolt of reality with the definite sign that winter isn’t far off, since the marina is emptied of boats now.

Just beautiful! I love when the lake makes the picture look like a mirror. This seems like one of the best places to get these pictures. Thanks for sharing.

These are absolutely stunning pictures.
There's GOT to be a contest somewhere for these! They'd win too!
Cool vid...and yeah, the Marina is empty. It's got to be interesting to watch from that apartment building!

A beautiful set that’s captured perfectly!!! Even the fish were cooperating, not even a flicker of a fin. It’s like they had their own underwater camcorders rolling.

Absolutely beautiful.
Water THAT calm doesn't happen very often.
