When Donna MacIntosh heads to the exercise room in her apartment building, she’s not only going to get some pedaling in on the exercise bike, she’s also taking in the view across the canal to the top of Quincy Hill and the Quincy Mine Shaft that sits UP there. Lately, though, it’s getting a bit grayer looking with the leaves mostly gone and depending on the day, the sky could be blue, white or even gun-metal gray. It makes it interesting and a somewhat different scene like this in the fall with the changing leaf coverage and skies. Not too much longer and it will be snow-covered and remain like that for months and months. Then she’ll be lucky she can even see across the canal when the lake-effect snow is filling the skies.

We have one of the latest “Crossing Place” videos from Visit Keweenaw, featuring Nathan Jones, the Executive Director of the Calumet Theatre: The Curtain Still Rises- the Calumet Theatre (The Crossing Place 2025). The lead-in says: “Step inside the historic Calumet Theatre in Michigan’s Copper Country, where 125 years of artistry, craftsmanship, and community spirit still take center stage. Built in 1900 as one a grand opera house for the Copper Country mining community, this architectural gem continues to dazzle visitors with its ornate proscenium, hand-painted murals, and a lineup that bridges past and present. From touring rock legends to local productions, every show is a reminder of how the Keweenaw’s history and creativity continue to shine in downtown Calumet, Michigan.”

Nice pictures, Donna. You have quite the view.

Good thing you can crop pics...if you could see
the real view...you probably wouldn't say that.
lol You should see the view out my window. ugh.

I love that Calumet Theatre....what a beautiful
building. I used to volunteer there, way back
when. I also worked for CCMH and we took a crew
there for a tour of that building, and THAT was so
cool. If you haven't done the tour...I highly
recommend it. You go behind the stage to way up in
the balcony. You see Sarah Berhardt's dressing
room....left as if she was going to walk in....it
truly is well worth your time.

Nice set of pix, Donna!
And I loved the video!
Not to long and packed
with entertaining information.

They almost look like oil paintings!

The theater has quite an amazing history.
