When Donna MacIntosh gets “sprung” from her apartment by her good friend Cindy (HI LOU!), the pair go cruising around the area. On this recent adventure, they were looking for fall color and found some in the Houghton Cemetery and also in the Liminga Cemetery. Also in Liminga, Donna spotted an interested headstone with marbles embedded in the concrete stone. I’d love to know the story behind this one, like was it a child’s grave and he/she loved marbles or was it an adult grave and the person collected marbles all their life? Whatever the story, it’s nice that the marble person can ‘rest in peace’ with something they enjoyed while living.

Also interesting here today, is the video from History of Simple Things. It delves into the difference in a Cemetery vs a Graveyard. I guess I had never thought about the two terms and that there was any difference at all. The lead-in says: “Have you ever wondered if there’s actually a difference between a cemetery and a graveyard? Most people think they’re the same thing, but history tells a different story. In this video, we uncover the fascinating origins, meanings, and traditions behind these two burial terms — from medieval churchyards to sprawling 19th-century garden cemeteries. You’ll learn how religion, urban planning, and language shaped the way we talk about final resting places, and why the distinction still matters today.”

We like cemeteries. What can I say? We hit one the
other day...amazing what is out there!

That marble one, I erased the name on it....no clue
if old or young, but I loved the marbles...isn't
there one in Lake Linden with marbles too?? I know
there's that huge chunk of petrified wood there, as
a tombstone.

The only Graveyard I know of is in Baraga.

you kiddo.

Nice pictures, Donna. I love going to cemeteries
and taking pictures also. The Lake Linden cemetery
is my favorite because there are so many that I've
known there. Cemeteries are so full of history.

Lovely place, "people are dying to get it". Sorry,
twisted humor, the Fall pics are very nice!!

Hi
Fall colors are winding down, but I saw some nice
ones this year.

My older relatives are in cemetaries. However, the
ashes of some of my more recently deceased friends
and relatives are in a Memorial Garden at our
church. Not the type of graveyard in the video;
that I haven't seen in real life.

Alex, are you OK? I'd expect you to have made a
joke
about grave conditions, or something.
