I’m not sure who is busier at the bird feeders in Kevin Dunham’s back yard, him with his camera at the ready or the many different birds that visit his feeding station daily. Today we get a look at a female and a male Red-Bellied Woodpecker. The first two shots of the female show the red on the nape of the neck and just above the bill, where the male has a solid red cap from the nape of the neck to the bill. Both the female and the male have just a faint red on their bellies. What great captures Kevin snapped with the male taking off and then in flight after snagging a peanut from the feeding tray. The bottom photo also is a neat shot, with the berry in the Robin’s bill. I have to say, here at our feeders in Lake Linden, I have yet to see the Red-Bellied woodpecker and Robins have been scarce lately, too. Maybe Kevin offers better treats there in Munising.
We get a lesson on 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Chickadees, from Badgerland Birding. The video lead-in says: “Chickadees are known for their fun nature and for being cute, but there's more to these birds than meets the eye. Here are 5 things you didn't know about chickadees!”

I opened up the pages and knew immediately that these were Kevin's pictures. He gets the best visitors and takes the best pictures. Since the neighbors cut down their cedar trees, we barely get any birds. And we can't keep our feeders out at all during the warmer months because of the bears. That's yet another reason we don't see many birds. So Kevin's pictures are welcome sights.

Hi Nice photos. I've always thought the name "Red- Bellied Woodpecker" didn't fit that well, since the red tint on the belly is so faint. But, there ia another woodpecker named the Red-Headed Woodpecker so they can't use that. The Red-Naped, maybe?
The video on chickadees was interesting. It says chickadees increase the size of their hippocampus in the fall so they can better remember where they cached food.

Excellent photos! Kevin has the timing down perfectly. Cute birdies in the video. I wonder if they are easily domesticated?

I knew it too Deb....there's Kevin's pics...(How do YOU like that Kevin??)
What GREAT pics...I had the Red Bellied in Baraga. Not often, but I did see them!!
Love Chickadees...I don't know if you can domesticate them. I'd imagine so, they are friendly lil birds....but they deserve freedom.
