Jean Dessellier is happy to share her backyard apples with this four-legged visitor. It looks like this young deer has found the perfect fall setting, complete with fruit for snacking, too.
Deer and critters in the Dessellier’s backyard, but around the front of the house there are some spooky looking visitors. They’re all decked out for the Halloween season with goblins, ghosts and pumpkin visitors. I really like the ‘Pacman’ type pumpkin, getting ready to gobble up a line of ghosts and the little pumpkin kid in the bottom photo, too. That’s quite an entertaining display, bringing smiles to folks that pass by their Lake Linden home.
We wrap up today with Secrets of Space taking a look at the Night Sky October 2025 Events – Orionids Meteor Shower. The lead-in to the video says: “In the northern hemisphere, October evokes thoughts of crunchy leaves, jack-o-lanterns, and yes, even those pumpkin-flavored drinks and treats. It also signals a full turning of the seasons; after the equinox in September, we’re into aurora season – and it turns out to be meteor season too! This year, the October night sky is going to be a great one. As in years past, October is meteor season there are seven meteor showers that reach peak activity during the month! There are also chances to see asteroids, dwarf planets, and other planets in our solar system too. Be sure to mark your calendar for October 21st (that’s tomorrow!!), the peak of the Orionids meteor shower and highlight of the month.”

Very cool. I think it's cool that there are people out there who want to put smiles on kid's faces when they're trick or treating. And, of course, we adults enjoy the seeing also.

Quite the display!! Jean should chop up the apples into smaller pieces, as a deer has weak jaws and can’t eat anything that doesn’t fit into it’s mouth. The fourth pic looks like that old video called Pac Man. The video looks Interesting, but I’ll have to check it out later.

WOW...how fun! Great decorations. I just love them.
I agree with Alex...cut the apples if you can...the deer got little bitty jaws that can't open big enough to bite an apple....although they do have really sharp hooves to cut them when they need to. That deer has excellent munchies!
Hi Interesting video, but most of the October meteor showers are already past. If the cloud cover permits (rain showers are predicted here in Jackson), I'll look for the Orionids.
There's no tie-in with today's photos, but a couple of friends and I were in the Eastern UP last Friday on color tour. We took M-123 up to Tahquamenon Falls, visiting both the lower and the upper falls. We came back by Whitefish Bay Scenic Byway that runs along the southern edge of Whitefish Bay before striking I-75 and heading back to Cheboygan. Except for I-75, the fall color and scenery were beautiful.

The deers' small jaws surely didn't have any problem chomping on my mums last night! Right on the front porch! Maybe a tough winter coming on and they're consuming whatever they can right now(?)

Every positive thought we pass between us makes room for more light.
When we feed the deer, we always cut the apples. My hubby thinks I'm crazy, but I've seen them struggle, especially the fawns.

So.... I need to plant flowers that are as big as apples? The deer just love my blossoms. Expensive deer feed!
There's been quite a bit of sky action recently on Isle Royale. Occasionally I'll see a meteor streak.

Those are gorgeous....the webcams go black and white at night (on Isle Royale) UNLESS there's bright enough color to kick off the colored cam.
Sometimes the lights aren't bright enough, but you can tell the lights are there....it's pretty cool.
