When Deb Simons and her hubby, Ron were traveling home from a visit in Minnesota recently, they stopped at a rest stop on M-28 that they hadn’t before, Ewen Pines Roadside Park, honoring John Risch. She said having a dog on the trip makes them stop more often and she’s enjoying taking more time to look around when they do, because there are so many things to look at and with life getting shorter, we just have to take the time to smell the pine trees! Deb told me that it was a feel-good place that made her relax and appreciate the beauty around the park. One of her favorite photos and mine, too, is the bottom one with the pine needles blanketing the road. There is just something about it that draws you in, with the tall pines and the rust color needles.

We join In The Keweenaw for a Fall Color Check over Lake Medora. He recorded this video a week ago today, so the colors have changed, but they always seem to progress a bit slower way UP North there.

There are a number of fall color things happening this month, starting with a Canal Colors Festival in downtown Houghton on October 3rd and 4th. Including Brew Fest and Plaidurday on the 3rd. Then on the 4th there is a Color Run and a Fall Fest on the waterfront. For more information about these events, click on the previous links for each event.

That Pine Needle Covered Road just makes me want to grab a broom!

Mary, I took quite a few pictures
there that day, and you pretty much
chose my favorites. It was a beautiful
place, with the tall trees, picnic
tables, grills, and pine needles all
over the place. And they didn't make
me want to pick up a broom, lol. I
just wanted to enjoy the beauty and
the fall smells. It had rained a ton
there and the ground was just squishy.
It's a great memory.

Deb....GORGEOUS pics...I do like that pine needle
covered road...way cool. I also like the branch
one.

Cool Vid too...Lake Medora was almost named
Mosquito Lake. Don't ask me where I heard
that...cause I sure don't remember, but it was back
in 1980 when I worked at the Mariner. Yes, I was a
Harbor Rat. lol

A nice set, Deb and
I could sense the
relaxation and the
comfort. The end of
one season and the
beginning of another.
Nice flyover-video too.

Hi
According to some fall color maps I've seen, parts
of the western UP have peak color. But something
I've noticed over the years is that fall color lags
a little right by the coast, whether it's Lake
Superior, Huron or Michigan.

That was a nice video. I liked that periodically a
caption would appear to point out a landmark.
