Stacey Flood took a ride to check out the Covered Road recently... looks like she was there before the leaves started changing color. It always is a pleasure to see how nature creates its own beauty, like this tunnel of trees that has been covering this stretch of road for years, on the way to Freda and the Redridge Dam in that area. At the dam, Stacey captured different scenes than the usual, in that she photographed the colorful graffiti on the concrete sections of the Dam. You probably either like the graffiti or don’t, but you have to admit, that it sure does add some color and interesting reading, too. It reminds me of the graffiti you see on train cars... I wonder where and when the tradition of painting graffiti like this started.

While you’re contemplating the graffiti thoughts, we join Alexis Dahl with a look at the Incredible Engineering Behind Michigan’s Iconic Bridge – The Mackinac Bridge. The lead-in says: “There's only one way to drive directly between Michigan's peninsulas, and it requires crossing this absolute feat of engineering. This is the story of the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere: the one, the only, the Mackinac Bridge.”

Good set, but the graffiti
bothers me a tad. As far
as it’s original, just take
a look at any major city
in the nation.
“They call it paradise
I don’t know why. You
call someplace paradise
kiss it goodbye.”
(Eagles; The last line
in the song;
“The Last Resort”)
Video a bit too long,
I’ll have to watch it
later.

Great pictures, though I'm with Alex.
I'm not a huge graffiti fan. I do love
the covered road and it makes for some
really good pictures, no matter the
season.

The Covered Road is a pretty ride indeed!

And I so wish they could clean up and rebuild in
Freda...it's so pretty in parts, and it's
Deliverance in other areas..

BTW Stacey...heckuva ride there!

I love Freda! My dad's family grew up
there. I still have family there. My
cousin owns and runs the B & B up
there and he used to own and run the
restaurant, too. The food was so
delicious. Freda will always hold a
special place in my heart. My uncle
had a cabin down on the lake and now
his son has one. My dad is on the
veteran's board there. Such a
beautiful area.

Hi
I don't see much fall color in the first two
photos. How are things coming UP there?

If someone would invent a graffiti-repelling
coating, it would be a great boon, in my opinion.
I'd find especially jarring out in the woods.

The Mackinac bridge is very familiar to me, being
only a short drive from the cabin. I was
interested in hearing about the stability
measures.

However, I did notice something on my last two
bridgewalks. It used to be that everyone started
from the north side and the walkers were able to
spread out into two lanes. Currently people can
start from either end but are confined to a single
outer lane, with the two inner lanes reserved for
emergency vehicles. I noticed a sway (think a boat
in high seas) when we got out near the middle. The
effect was larger in 2023 when I started early
with a bigger crowd.
