u{Don Afman} (a.k.a. D.A. Midwested) was able to take some vacation time in the Keweenaw the end of August and was lucky enough to be at Esrey Park on a windy day to see Lake Superior at her finest. She was rocking and rolling, crashing and splashing on the rocks on shore, putting on quite a display for Don to capture. You know the Big Lake is riled UP when the waves are frothing on their way to the shore. Don did a fine job “freezing” several big splashes, stopping the Lake Superior in her tracks.

And as if photos weren’t quite enough, Don recorded a video, too. So we get to hear those southeasterly winds and see the display of the Big Lake’s power as she sent wave after wave crashing into the rocks on the Esrey Park shoreline. It’s the next best thing to being there in person. I bet if you concentrate hard enough, you might even feel a stray splash or two. Nice job Don, thanks for sharing!

Just so amazing at Esrey. The waves
hit the rocks and it's always a
beautiful show. Thanks, D.A.

Beautiful pics, I knew right away that was Esrey
Park before reading everything. Many of us have
stood in that very spot taking pictures. One of the
best serene places on earth for sure, nicely done!

Excellent set, Don!!!
Very professional
looking video.
And glad you had
some vacation time
to go UP and enjoy
the UP.

The wind was strong enough to cause a bit of vibration of the tripod that you can see in a portion of the video. The Lake had been angry all week, even delaying my earlier trip on the Queen IV to Isle Royale.

Here's a view that includes the famous lone standing tree that had been toppled earlier. I'm betting The Lake will take it by next Summer.
