When Melanie Hakala Rossi and friends want to get away from it all and get in some exercise at the same time, they head out in the Keweenaw for a hike somewhere. This day they chose a hike up on Mount Houghton and got themselves some ‘rock therapy’ as a bonus. The view from UP there is outstanding, no matter which direction you look, as you can see from the photos. Something else you can see in Melanie’s pictures, is how much the ladies were enjoying it all, just look at the smiles on their faces in that first photo. Hiking in the Keweenaw will do that to you... the exhilaration of the hike and then the rewarding views... priceless!

We head over to Calumet with This Building Matters to look at the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, which became St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in 1966 after multiple churches in the Copper Country were combined. The video is titled: This small mining town built Michigan’s most stunning church.

This beautiful church is where my mother's family
history is at, from my mother's baptism to her
marriage. Inside the church were brass lighting poles
in the pews. They even had gates at the front of the
the church where the wealthy paid and sat. My mom and
grandma sang in the choir. They never had a sound
system. They didn't need one.The acoustics are far
better than any sound system.

Jean...that is interesting! Thanks for the share.
Interesting vid.

As usual, Mel does fantastic work! That third pic
looks like smoke, or fog might be in it???

Hi
The view that the ladies got is indeed beautiful.
I'm not sure how me & my left hip would handle a
long steep climb.

Jean, it's great that the church of your family is
still standing, and being used for worship. I
still attend my childhood church down here in
Jackson. We are Congegationalist, which means each
congregation is independent. No national body can
close us, unlike the Catholic parishes discussed
in the video. It also means we are responsible for
making sure we have the income & participation to
keep the doors open.

Donna, I'm not sure what inspired the Yogi Berra
quote, but here's another that's appropriate for
the views displayed:
"You can observe a lot by looking"

Does anyone know what the milkcan was used for in the picture of the 2003 post of miners on a break at Painesdale mine, in Sunday's Shoebox memory?

Rocky road set!
I wonder how well
therapy rocks would
work in a hospital???
Nice video that brings
people of faith together.
