Emily Lahnala shares today’s photos of what she says was the ‘best week of summer’. Her family recently spent time in Sault Ste. Marie with an Aunt and Uncle, getting to watch freighters sailing by, going fishing, enjoying good food and plenty of family fun. A highlight was getting to explore the Museum Ship Valley Camp in the Soo. Getting a look back in time to what it was like aboard the freighter and learning all about the workings of a big ship like those they were seeing sailing by during the week. What a great way to end summer vacation.
MI Playground shares a video short aboard the Valley Camp Museum Ship, exploring the huge deck, peeking into crew cabins and checking out the actual lifeboat that was recovered from the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Emily did such a great job on these. That's definitely on my bucket list.

How fun! A pack of us went there decades ago. It was pretty fascinating then....I'd imagine it's really up there now.
I love seeing little kids light up..that's so cool.

I share Emily's thoughts on a best vacation. We toured the Valley Camp as well. It put the fate of the Fitzgerald into perspective one could only imagine the night of Nov. 10,1975.

Hi I always love seeing the freighters. Although the Soo is any easy day trip from my cabin, I've only been to the Valley Camp a couple of times. One of the friends I went to the Soo with recently has mobility issues, so climbing around in the Valley Camp isn't feasible.
