Laurie Bashaw and her husband Edward were camping at Lake Gogebic State Park recently and started out to hike the North Country Trail between Michigan and Wisconsin, but never found that trail. They did find the Bald Mountain Scenic Overlook trail in Ironwood Township, so they made the .8 mile hike to the top instead. They found the Bald Mountain Memorial Warming TeePee on the top, along with some pretty cool views. Bonus for Laurie and Ed is that this trail is also part of the North Country Trail, so they were able to log more miles on their NCT log, too. Laurie also said the trail to the top of Bald Mountain was not too bad.

The Bald Mountain Memorial Trail TeePee Warming Shelter was actually a project back in 2022. A 12+ month project by 50 volunteers of the Gogebic Range Trail Authority - ORV & Snowmobile Club members and sponsors. It makes for a nice shelter to warm up in when snowmobiling on the trail to the top or riding the trails in the summer months, too.

Today’s video is from 1440 Daily and highlights America’s Forgotten DIY Houses. The lead-in says: “From 1908–1940s, Sears sold DIY house kits starting at $600. An estimated 100,000 homes were built, but fewer than 5,000 have been identified today.” I am not certain, but was always told that a house here in Lake Linden was either a Sears or Montgomery Wards kit house. I wonder if that’s where the idea came from to make Lego building sets?

A very nice;
“I wish I could.” set!
Years ago, I kept having
dreams about TeePees
and Wigwams and my
my shrink told me to
relax, because I was
two tents.

beautiful view.

And, he took Bigfoot with him!

Nice pics indeed, and that tent is a cool idea.

And those houses...how cool is that? I just
looked...they still got them for sale. Amazon and
lots of other places. It's amazing. They sure
aren't $600 dollars anymore tho!

In times of deep darkness, we not only need light —
we need to be light for one another.

The original house on our farm was a Sears DIY. We
lived in it since the early 1960s. It was donated
to several fire departments for training purpose
after our new home was built on the same property.
