If you want to capture night time beauty in the Keweenaw skies, you’ll have to get out there later in the night, after 11 p.m., like Isaac Diener did when he captured these Northern Lights in Eagle Harbor township. He called it a little burst of Northern Lights, as it only lasted about 5 minutes. Check out the number of stars in the sky, too, along with streaks from shooting stars or meteors perhaps. And the reflections in Lake Superior...absolutely stunning! As a bonus to the night photos, on his way home Isaac stopped at Lily Pond in Hancock township and snapped the Milky Way. The stars and the Milky Way Galaxy reflecting in the water is nothing short of spectacular, too!

WJMN Local 3 did a story on the 2024 Upper Peninsula Dark Sky Festival that was held at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge last year. The video gives you some tips on the best ways to view the dark skies.

This year, on September 11th – 14th, the Great Lakes Aurora Dark Sky Jamboree (Glad Jam) will take place in Houghton at the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts. It is a four-day celebration of the Northern Lights and night sky in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Each day features a mix of free, publc programming, alongside a curated selection of paid, registration-only experiences. "sweet spot" for Auroras, but the clouds lately
mess that up...But boy...those Live cams around
