When driving down part way on the Way Dam Road a few weeks back, Danielle Putnam and her hubby decided to come back again on another day to see if they could find the dam and they did! She said it wasn’t too far from their home in Michigamme, maybe a half hour drive and she said it was a super cool find for them. The Way Dam and the Michigamme Reservoir. It’s actually located in Crystal Falls on the Michigamme River in Iron County, within the Western U.P. region. The Way Dam Hydroelectric Project was completed in April 1943 and is a multiple arch dam, 693 feet long, with five inclined arches on solid piers. When it was built, the dam created the Michigamme Reservoir, a 113,800 acre impoundment, which is a body of water confined within an enclosure, such as a reservoir. Interesting stuff right there... I had never heard of this Dam before.

We’re back in Marquette with Ed the Diver, doing some recovery of items in the water around Marquette Harbor by the old ore dock. The lead-in to the video says: “We found 2 fake EAGLES, a Milwaukee drill, a case of drill bits and MORE while cleaning up the water in Lake Superior, in Marquette, Michigan! Silent J and I were up in that area for a few days, cleaning up the waterways. Lake Superior was kinda chilly, but super clear and easy to see and remove litter, like tires, plastic, glass and more. We were near the Lower Harbor Ore Dock and Retired Ore Dock. The rod/reel combo that we found in this video was returned to the rightful owner a few weeks later! Laurium Manor Inn is in the running (again!) for Newsweek’s Best Historical B&B, and this time, they’re aiming for the top spot. If you’d like to help achieve that honor, you can cast your vote by clicking here: Newsweek’s Best Historical B&B, then click the black button that says: “Vote for the best historical B&B!”. That will take you to a pop-up window with the list... scroll down to “G. Laurium Manor Inn – Laurium, MI”, click on it, then scroll down and click the “Submit” button. The contest runs until August 14th at Noon ET, so we’ll have a reminder here each day if you’d like to vote. Thanks in advance.

Eye popping set with
a plethora of color!
I’ve got those UP blues
once again.
And “ kudos” to Ed the
Diver and associate for
doing what they are doing.
It’s hard to believe that
people can be so
disrespectful, whether
intentional or unintentional
to a place of such beauty.

paradise, kiss it goodbye.”

I'm with Alex. Those blues are
amazing! Just beautiful!

And unfortunately, some people are
very disrespectful and downright lazy.
I find myself picking up broken glass,
cigarette butts, etc at beaches.
Thankfully, it's not a lot around here
as most people respect the area. But
there should be none.

I'm with Alex and Deb...it is beyond disgusting
there is that much garbage in that little area. God
Bless both those men for cleaning it up. They are
earning their "God Points" for sure!

Beautiful pics...and those huge pieces of
engineering just blow me away. They simply amaze
me. Massive..just massive, and the folks that built
them. Holy wha.

And thanks Deb for your cleaning the beaches, and
thank you Mary for the reminder to vote....you
Rock~!

Hi
Some of the stuff the divers recovered were
probably lost in an accident; I can't imagine
someone dumping their fishing rod or drill.
Others, like all the tires, were somebody dumping
their trash.

I remember when I was a kid we'd find light bulbs,
orange peels and lumps of tar on the beach but
that hasn't been the case for decades. Nowadays
maybe occasionally somebody's ball cap. I can
imagine it blowing off some boater's head.
