We wrap up the week, with a final U.P. vacation adventure (for this trip) from Cindy Conway & Michael Donnelly, at the Quartzite Falls in Baraga County. Cindy had this to say about today’s adventure: “We were excited to search for our next destination located off Arvon Road on the Slate River, Quartzite Falls. We had seen it described as a “perfect little waterfall”, and after finding our way there, it truly is! First you have to locate an old logging bridge, park near there, then walk upstream. There is a sign there for the falls, and it’s a short easy walk through the woods to get there. Quartzite Falls is a small scenic drop, but the long slab of slate that it slides down below is quite stunning. The other thing we found really unique here were these long pale “stripes” in the riverbed. Took us a bit to figure out what we were seeing, but it was fascinating - Veins of Quartz running through the Slate above the falls! Could not see any of the Quartz veins in the pool below the falls. Geology is so amazing, and the UP seriously ROCKS! From the wooden bridge where we parked for Quartzite Falls, we then hiked upstream a little ways to view some more small drops and Black Slate Falls. This whole area is very beautiful!”
Remote Workforce Keweenaw shares a short video of the Quartzite Falls to complete today’s visit there. If you want to hear the roar of the waterfall, make sure your speakers are turned UP!
Laurium Manor Inn is in the running (again!) for Newsweek’s Best Historical B&B, and this time, they’re aiming for the top spot. If you’d like to help achieve that honor, you can cast your vote by clicking here: Newsweek’s Best Historical B&B, then click the black button that says: “Vote for the best historical B&B!”. That will take you to a pop-up window with the list... scroll down to “G. Laurium Manor Inn – Laurium, MI”, click on it, then scroll down and click the “Submit” button. The contest runs until August 14th at Noon ET, so we’ll have a reminder here each day if you’d like to vote. Thanks in advance.

That is one sweet looking waterfall. One that I would be checking out if I could. And the video enhanced the experience. Thanks to all of the contributors!

Very nice! We visited these falls but i don't recall the stripes. Maybe the water was too high and they weren't as visible then. All depends on the time of year.
