We’ve had a few thunder, lightning and rain storms passing over the Keweenaw recently. Thanks to Isaac Diener (the first photo) and his significant other, Brittany Lyn (the remaining three photos), we get a good look at the storm clouds darkening the sky over the Quincy Mine Shaft and campus on Quincy Hill near Hancock. Pretty impressive with that storm front rolling through like that. I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure we were doused with a heavy rainfall from this storm and probably more than a few cracks of lightning and the thunder that goes with a storm like this.

Meanwhile, over in Marquette, Shannon over at 906 Images was out in similar stormy weather, recording the sounds and spectacular view of a Lake Superior sunset with some Superior waves rolling in to shore.

Laurium Manor Inn is in the running (again!) for Newsweek’s Best Historical B&B, and this time, they’re aiming for the top spot. If you’d like to help achieve that honor, you can cast your vote by clicking here: Newsweek’s Best Historical B&B, then click the black button that says: “Vote for the best historical B&B!”. That will take you to a pop-up window with the list... scroll down to “G. Laurium Manor Inn – Laurium, MI”, click on it, then scroll down and click the “Submit” button. The contest runs until August 14th at Noon ET, so we’ll have a reminder here each day if you’d like to vote. Thanks in advance.

Wow! Those are some clouds, and the
storm was so loud. I love these
pictures. Nice catch!

Pure Awesomeness! Wow!! Thank you for braving that
one! You have to have such a massive, beautiful
collection of pictures!

The video is awesome too...I watched something,
somewhere that insisted the Great Lakes are not
lakes. They are inland seas! I thought that was
pretty cool.

And thank you again for the reminder to vote. It
said I voted already?? So I went to a different
browser and it worked!

Wisdom of life set.
When storms of life
approach, trim your
sail until you reach
the other side.

And air quality alerts
have been taking
place all over MI.

Hi
We haven't had clouds or rain downstate in
Jackson.
The wildfire smoke has cleared out, currently.

The video of the Soo locks was nice. It's been a
while since I've gone on that ride. However, a few
years ago my parents & I went on a lighthouse
cruise
that started at that same dock. The tour went up
into Whitefish Bay and back. We looked at various
navigation aids, though Port Iroquois was the only
traditional lighthouse. Still fun to get out on
the water.
