The 21st Annual End of the Road Keweenaw Tour & Car Show took place in Copper Harbor last weekend on the 19th of July. It’s always a big event for car enthusiasts and one my hubby and I try to attend to check out the cars and trucks of all colors and makes. The amount of time and money these car owners spend to bring these cars back to life and beauty is simply amazing. The “show” actually starts in the Calumet Schools parking lot for a preview of some of the cars, then the Keweenaw Tour begins with a parade of cars headed to Copper Harbor. Once they arrive in Copper Harbor, they park on both sides of the main street, which is blocked off to thru traffic from the Minnetonka Resort to the Donny Kilpela Memorial Park. I don’t have any figures on the number of cars or how many people were there in town to enjoy the event, including live music by Chad Borgen and the Collective, along with delicious food and beverages from the concessions in the Park. All I can say, is the street was packed with folks enjoying the day and the weather turned out perfect. If you’ve never attended, make plans to be there next year for the 22nd Annual Car Show.
We head back to Painesdale now, for the latest Visit Keweenaw Crossing Place video: Heights of Mining History: The Painesdale Mine and Shaft. The video lead-in says: “Head to the Champion #4 Mine in Painesdale, Michigan - where copper history climbs, rather than descends. Michael Prast, president of Painesdale Mine and Shaft, Inc., shares how this volunteer-led nonprofit is preserving one of the Keweenaw’s historic shaft-rock houses. It’s the only mine tour in the region where you go up - through the shaft-house house, still standing tall over the neighborhood that grew around it. While Quincy, Delaware, and Adventure Mine take you beneath the surface, the Painesdale Mine offers a rare above-ground perspective into the grit, machinery, and copper mining stories.”

Car shows!! One of Bob and myself favorite activity we enjoy! Looks like the UP is not short on some awesome cars!! Would love to make a vacation in the UP to bring our 1966 & 1968 Mercury Cyclone GT's to a car show there!

That looks like fun! Mary...did you and Jim take your old truck??
Janie..sounds like you need to take a spin here! And yes...people have some cool old wheels U.P. here!
Classic muscle car set? JT…I agree, one of my favorites as well. Growing up in Metro Detroit in the 70s and cruising Woodward Avenue in my buddy’s 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle was always way too cool. Thanks for the memories And a cool video too!

During pasty fest there are always old cars parked up there on the main street in Calumet. Looks like you and Jim had a great day for this. Thanks for bringing us along.

Capt. Paul…do you still own that classic Road Runner? Another classic that frequently showed up on Woodward.

Donna, Unfortunately, the yellow 1952 Ford F1 pickup isn't running the best, so we've been just taking shorter rides, closer to home lately. Maybe next year's car show!
I tried to post a picture of our 1966 & 1968 Mercury Cyclone GT's on my profile but it would not go through. We also have a 1977 Ford Pinto & a 1991 Camaro RS we show in car shows as well.
