Fritz and family ventured away from the Keweenaw recently and headed to Garden, MI to check out Fayette State Park. They kayaked in Big Bay De Noc for a lakeside view of the buildings and the Dolomite Cliffs in the area and then Jeff Dennis said they did spend some time checking out the State Park on land, too. The park consists of a historic townsite, a modern campground, Snail Shell Harbor, a visitor center, a boating access site, a swim area and more. The park has 5 miles of trails where you’ll find impressive views from the 90-foot cliffs that surround the harbor. Looks like a great place to visit.

The Dennis family also made a visit to Escanaba and had to wet the kayaks there, too, so they could paddle next to the Cason J. Calloway freighter that is docked there in Escanaba for a long term layup. She’s been there since December 2023. Whether she will sail again is uncertain at this point. Fritz had Jeff paddle by the Sand Point Lighthouse while they were there, too. Nice to see Fritz, Jeff and Chris enjoying the southern portion of the Upper Peninsula along with Little and Big Bay De Noc and Lake Michigan, too.

In case you’re like me and have never been to Fayette State Park, we have an informative video from Alexis Dahl about life there when it was a thriving, iron smelting town. The lead-in to her video says: “In less than 25 years, the people of Fayette, Michigan produced almost 500 million pounds of iron ingots — but the fate of their town would turn out to be short lived. This is the story of an iron smelting ghost town. Thanks to UP Travel for supporting this video!”

Way cool...My niece says that lighthouse is
haunted.

I love Alexis's vids...

Alexis just released a new video on the cedar tree's
that grow out of that Dolomite. Very Interesting.

I love that lighthouse and I love
those areas. Fritz gets around more
than I do. He sure has a good time and
he's lucky that he's able to talk his
pets into going on such grand
adventures. He's got them well
trained. Good dog and great pictures.

Fritzzz…Flixzz!
Starring the one and
only; Captain Fritz in
the furry flesh.
I wonder if Jeff has
trained him to relieve
himself over the side
of the kayak or does
he have a poop deck.
