When H Donn de Yampert was at McLain Park Campground recently, he ran into an absolutely prehistoric looking fellow. He got up close and personal with him to snap a few photos of this snapper turtle. My guess is he had a good telephoto lens to grab these shots. That second photo is the one that really caught my eye, as Donn seemed to be face to face with the snapper. Don’t worry, though, he was safe and didn’t provoke Mr. Snapper into attacking him. From what I’ve read, they aren’t naturally aggressive, but if they feel threatened they will get defensive and will bite. Their bite can be quite powerful and inflict some serious damage, so if you’re approaching one to move it, proceed with caution. It’s best to just let them be.

We join Kristin Ojaniemi for episode 138 of Discovering, as they go fishing for Lake Trout, to Stannard Rock, in the middle of Lake Superior with Sore Arm’s Charters of Big Bay.

eyes...I've never seen one so close...and his
little nostrils are cute! Awesome pics H Donn!

And I am just addicted to Discovering. And with the
lunkers they caught that day...no wonder they call
it "Sore Arms Charters"...my arms wouldn't work
good enough to pull anything like that in...the
pole would slip out of my hands, and that poor
fish...
