Thanks to George C. Bailey, we have some patriotic skies over the Keweenaw to help us celebrate Independence Day here on the Pasty Cam today. Red, white and blue coloring the Copper Country is not all that unusual, but having all three at the same time seems perfect for this 4th of July! We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable day and if you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy the festivities, check out this link from Visit Keweenaw: 4th of July in the Keweenaw

In the meantime, we have a short fireworks display that I recorded while in Mackinaw City on our get-away. They have a fireworks show every Saturday evening from what I hear.

Eldred Francis Faller, 94, of Green Valley, AZ. passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, at the La Posada campus after a long battle with Cancer. Born on March 30, 1931, in Lake Linden, MI., Eldred was a beloved father, husband, friend, and pet owner of his Dog Daisy. Eldred graduated from the Lake Linden-Hubbell High school in 1949. Eldred started his career in retail at local furniture and appliance store in Calumet MI. He was drafted into the Army in 1952 and served in the Korean theater at the Headquarters Armed Force Far East. After an honorable discharge, he returned as a Manager of this Furniture and Appliance store for 12 years. Eldred changed careers and joined the Sears Catalog Midwest Division in 1964 and was a Manager of Stores in Minnesota, Iowa and Michigan for 23 Years. Eldred retired in Green Valley, AZ. in 1987. Eldred dedicated his life to servant leadership by holding key officer roles in the Knights of Columbus (KOC) in Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa and Arizona. Eldred was active with the KOC at our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Green Valley, AZ. (Grand Knight of the 3rd degree, Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree Knights).

Eldred was also involved as a lead Usher and Eucharistic Minister. He served as the Treasurer of St. Vincent DePaul Society. Eldred worked tirelessly at the Green Valley, AZ. Food Bank and was past President of the CASA Site Council. Eldred was an active member of the American Legion and various Veteran’s organizations. Eldred enjoyed playing Shuffleboard for many years and was a past President of the Green Valley, AZ. Shuffleboard League. Eldred was a lifelong sports fan, with special devotion to the Green Bay Packers and the AZ. Diamond Backs.

He is survived by his children, David Faller (Catherine Faller), Lisa Faller Fenton (Wes Fenton), and his grandchildren, Katherine Gharib and Kellie (Paul) Flores.

A memorial funeral mass service will be held 10:00 am on July 25 at our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Green Valley, AZ. with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion Post 66 in Green Valley, AZ. Eldred will be interred at the Mount Calvery Cemetery in Lake Linden, MI. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Eldred’s memory.
