Nancy Haun was pulling out of her driveway and said she almost squashed a couple of these tiny little chicks all lined up behind their Ruffed Grouse Mother. Thankfully she spotted them before that happened and was able to stop and get a photo and even a video, too! She said from a distance, they looked like dots on the road, so she was happy to see them all get across the road following Mom into the tall grass on the side of the road.
The Robin photos were snapped by Nancy at the Bishop Baraga Shrine grounds. How fun that she captured the Robin with a beak full of tasty worms. It must have been her turn to fix dinner!
Make sure you check out Nancy’s video of the Mom and Chicks crossing the road. Why did the Ruffed Grouse family cross the road? Well, my goodness... to get to the other side, silly!

I love these. Momma and babies are so cool. And it's such a good feeling to see that first Robin of the season, too. I think since it's one of the first signs of summer, the Robin is my favorite bird. And it's so cute to see a worm hanging out of its mouth. Exciting for Nancy to catch mom and babies on that video.

I like those fine looking chicks in the first pic. And those worms are like gummies which is why they fly so high. And Grouse crossed the road because they don’t have pockets to carry wallets so that’s there way of saying; “Let me show you pictures of my kids.” Don’t ya know. That’s my take and I’m sticking to it.

Hi Another answer to the question "Why did the Ruffed Grouse family cross the road?" is "Because it was too far to walk around."
I noticed that it was up to the chicks to keep up & stay with the group; that last litte chick that took its time made me nervous. But mom grouse did not circle around to get it, just kept going.

These pictures put me in mind of George and Paulette Beveridge's "Pretty Bird" who graced these pages many times in days gone by.

The first picture reminds me of George and Paulette Beveridge's "Pretty Bird" who was often on Pasty Cam in years gone by.
