Our first shot for today was snapped by Debbie Jarve in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet. She captured the Phlox that covers much of the cemetery this time of year. The ground-cover adorns the landscape there each spring, bringing the color and beauty of nature at its best. I wish it could flower like this all summer!

For the remaining photos Debbie captured, she didn’t have to go far to find nature’s beauty, she actually found these beauties in her own back yard, starting with the Chestnut Tree blossom. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen these blooms before, so unique and pretty. Next are two of my favorite flowers, both pansies, I think, so delicate and such deep color. And lastly, apple blossoms. I’ve been encouraged this spring with all the apple blossoms, hoping this means a good year for apples!

With all the blossoms blooming, also comes so many varieties of birds to see as they migrate through or come back for the summer months. We join Major Rex for a look at 30 Best Birds to Watch for in Michigan. Many of which you’ll see right here in the Upper Peninsula!

Colorful display of
flowers even on my
iPhone. I’m especially
drawn to;
Foxy Phloxy.
“ I want to take you home,
yeahI won't do you no
harm, You've got to be
all mine, all mine.
Ooh, Foxy Phloxy.”
(J. Hendrix)
Contrafactum

And a great bird herd
is the word. I didn’t see
a Prattling Jaybird or
one of my favorites;
an out of lucker,
Yellow-bellied sapsucker

Those are so beautiful...most cemeteries have that
beautiful Phlox..just gorgeous. I've never that
Chestnut Tree Candle either. Is that a bud on a
tree? Or is it a flower coming out of the ground?
And I just adore Pansies and Johnny Jump Ups.
Brings back awesome memories....

Watch for da birds eh!

I've never "SEEN" the Chestnut Tree Candle. I
googled it..I got all kinds of candles. Then did
Chestnut Tree flower...just the trees...so...I
still don't know!

Simply beautiful set this morning. I
love the phlox. Houghton cemetery is
covered with them. We have some
growing in our yard too, much to my
delight. I planted some pansies on
Saturday. They're so pretty. I wish I
would have gotten all of my seeds
planted what with all the rain we've
been getting. Oh well. And our
neighbor's apple tree is just loaded
with apple blossoms. The deer ate
going to love them. As far as the
chestnut blooms, it's unanimous. I've
never seen nor heard of them, but they
sure are pretty.

I thought the Johnny Jump-Ups were big Bumblebees.

Beautiful!

Can't wait for the Lupines.

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 - 08:53 am:

Hi
Donna, I'd guess that the flowers are on a vertical
stem coming off the tree branch, and the way they
look is why the term "candle" was used. I don't
think I've ever seen a chestnut tree. If I were
Alex, I'd put in a joke about horses here, as I've
seen a number of that sort of chestnut during my
life.

You have to be right Kathyrn!

YEP..I just googled Chestnut tree flowers....they
got different colored ones too!
