We have a family of foxes on the Pasty Cam today. Debbie Jarve captured these guys with her camera and actually I’m not certain the first fox was spotted with the kits in the second and third photos or even if they were photographed on the same day. The baby foxes are just so cute, I can’t imagine their mother couldn’t be far from them, probably watching from where she won’t be seen.

Debbie’s duck photos are pretty neat. The brown duck with the ring around it’s bill, is most likely a female Ring-Neck Duck. Not sure why it’s ring-neck, when the ring is actually on the duck’s bill. Then the black and white colored duck, from what I could find, is probably a Lesser Scaup, also called a Little Bluebill or a Broadbill, because of it’s distinctive blue bill. The Keweenaw is a migrating area for both of these ducks, so they probably are already moved on to their breeding or year round areas, so that was a nice catch on these photos by Debbie.

The folks at MI Playground have put together a list of 10 fresh ideas for family fun this summer in Michigan's oldest city, Sault Ste. Marie. It’s a great place to visit and you can add these ideas to your own list.

Hi
Some interesting stuff in the video. Even though
I've coming up to the Soo since I was a kid, I'd
never been to some of the places shown. I'll check
out the two parks mentioned and the Center for
Freshwater Research and Education.

Bird names can indeed be odd. For example, there
are two species of woodpecker with a lot of red on
their heads. The one with its entire head red is
called, logically enough, the red-headed
woodpecker. The other one, with a broad red stripe
on the back of its head, is called...the red-
bellied woodpecker. I'm told a faint reddish tinge
can be detected on the belly.

Great pictures. I love foxes. They are
so darn cute. Our cats used to chase
them out of our yard when we lived in
Minnesota. There's one that hangs
around our neighborhood here in Lake
Linden. Not sure if the cats have
spotted it yet. But you sure can hear
it. Fox screeches, wow!! Love the
ducks too.

Especially the cute fox.

Cool video too that
brought back memories
of the tour boat and
the vendors trying
to sell souvenirs
as the boat lowered.

Did the Momma fox get the duck?
