The Northern Lights made an appearance last week and Mandy Cadwell caught them from her home in Bootjack. You can’t quite see the lake, but the Aurora was dancing in the skies over Torch Lake. No matter how many times you’ve seen the Lights, it’s always a treat to see them in person like Mandy did. And for those of us that missed them, thankfully folks like Mandy are always willing to share their photos!

Deputy Matt Eberly from the Keweenaw County Sheriff Dept. and Mike McMahon from the Keweenaw ATV Club team up in today’s video from Visit Keweenaw, with ORV/ATV safety tips. The trails north of Calumet open on May 15th. The lead-in to the video says: “Safety isn't just a checklist - it's a way to keep your ride memorable in the Keweenaw. Ride right. Ride safe. Ride sober. The Keweenaw ATV Club and Love the Keweenaw share some straightforward rules and insights to ensuring a safe and enjoyable ride on the Keweenaw's ATV trails!”

Thanks, Mandy for sharing
your pix with those of us
who are unable to see
them firsthand.
And an informative
video too. We used to
ride trails with sandrails
and one rule was that
you were always
responsible for the
rider behind you and
when you can to a
cross trail or a fork, you
must always wait for the
rider behind you to catch
up so that they see
which way to go.
This rule also applied
when snowmobiling as well.

McMahon...great guy. There have been Northern
Lights out all over...My cousin lives in Detroit
and we watch the lights up in Canada...on You
Tube, or Shawn Malone's in Marquette....and I got
an email the other day from Space Weather DOT
com...

THE CENTENNIAL GLEISSBERG CYCLE: You've heard of
the 11-year sunspot cycle. But what about the
Centennial Gleissberg Cycle? The Gleissberg Cycle
is a slower 100-year modulation of sunspots. New
research just published in the journal Space
Weather suggests that the Gleissberg Cycle is
waking up again, which could make solar cycles for
the next 50 years increasingly intense.

So there should be a few to come.

This is the You tube sight we watch:
