When Judy Byykkonen took her “girls” for a walk at the Lions Park in Calumet last week, she was happy to see that Calumet Lake is opening UP, with the ice quickly melting away. You can see the ice looks thin and mushy and water is finally exposed there. With the warm temps we enjoyed over the weekend, I’m betting it’s melted quite a bit more now. It must be Spring then, right?

Judy and her pups weren’t the only one there around the Lake. She recorded a video of a critter swimming back and forth by them, keeping an eye on her and the doggies. That eager Beaver even tried to scare them away with a slap of his tail as he dove underwater. How fun to capture him in action

USA Today is running a contest – 10 Best and Hunter’s Point in Copper Harbor is in the running for the Best Beach in Michigan. You can vote once per day until voting ends on Monday, May 19th at noon ET. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, May 28th. Click here to vote: Vote for Hunter’s Point

I'll be happy to start seeing more colorful pictures. But winter has just held on. This winter has been enough to give anybody the blues. It's nice that Judy takes her dogs all over, no matter the weather. And she always takes great pictures wherever she goes. Such a good dog mom.

Hi
It must be dispiriting to still see ice on the
lakes. On the upside, you probably don't have mow
or weed yet, like I do.

Mary, I don't believe the beaver was trying scare
onlookers. If I remember correctly, they slap
their tails to alert other beavers. Kind of like
whitetail deer raising their tails.

With regard to dog walking, the local TV station
has what they call their "furcast", with red,
yellow or green pawprints for bad, questionable,
and good conditions.

Kathyrn is right! Beaver's slapping is to warn it's
family.

Way cool pics..Judy is an awesome dog mom!

I like the "furcast"...

Hunter's Point is at #6....

Ice is nice, but ice is ice
