We can always count on E. Neil Harri to capture the good stuff around Eagle Harbor and vicinity. Today he’s brought us SPRING at the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse. There were still a couple patches of snow the day he snapped this photo, but it sure looks great to have all that ice and snow out of the Harbor entrance.

Neil’s next shot is along M-26 on a recent rainy day. We’ve had a few of those days lately, but it’s better than snowflakes and it melts the snow we still have in places. The bottom photo though, is always one of my favorites. That’s the Popeye Rock (Ignore the dirty, white stuff all around it)! It’s located on the Eagle Harbor Cut-off road and I’m not positive, but I think Popeye’s image has been painted there on this rock since the 60’s sometime. There used to be a Popeye Run, too, but there again, I don’t have the history on that either. So if you know the story of how the Popeye Rock came about or info on what the Popeye Run was all about, please fill us all in!

In the meantime, Great Lakes Now shares an informative video about the Scientists Exploring the Great Lakes Hidden Habitats. The lead-in says: “Researchers at Michigan Tech’s Great Lakes Research Center are mapping the lakebeds using cutting-edge technology. Hayden Henderson gives us a look into the tools they use to document benthic habitats and gather detailed images of the lakebeds.”

Nice pictures. The Eagle Harbor
lighthouse has always been my
favorite.

Bill Tolonen sent us a link with more info on the Popeye Rock. It was posted on George Hite's, Eagle Harbor Web. Click here and read all about it: Eagle Harbor Web

Nice pix as usual, Neil.
I especially like M-26,
one of the best rides
in the USA.
And I’m sure it was
Bluto (Brutus) who wrote
the graffiti on the rock
because Popeye was
dating Olive Oyl.
Informative video too.

Alex,
I'm right there with ya.
I LOVE the M-26 Roller-coaster!

I remember running home from school just to catch the tail-end of Popeye.
