Canyon Falls, also known as the “Grand Canyon of the U.P.”, is located just south of L’Anse. The Falls are in full raging waters mode with the Spring runoff of all the melting snow. Karen Anderson Ham stopped to check out the action last week and was most definitely not disappointed. I really like that she captured a view of the Canyon Falls Bridge over the Sturgeon River on US41. We don’t often get to see the bridge from below like that, mostly just from the top as you’re driving over it. You can see from her photos that the river and the falls are roaring, foaming and at their finest with all the rushing waters from the melting snow. The water is so stirred up in her photos, you can almost hear the roar of it all.

But if you REALLY want to hear it, Karen also recorded a short video of the river as the water was rushing by. I wonder how fast the water would be clocked at if there was a way to record the speed it is going by. Suffice it to say that I wouldn’t want to slip and end up in that river, as it would carry you away in seconds. Good thing we can watch and listen from the safety of our computers, phones or laptops!

D.A. it's snowing today.

Yea Deb, I saw your snowfall today. That's why my hesitation. Here, it was 84 Deg_F yesterday. Very warm for Northern IL.

I haven't been UP during the Spring for so long, I can't remember the earliest for Black Flies. If the goal is to go as late as possible but not miss max river flow AND not have bug issues, the key is to be mobile. Being able to move around (i.e. run away) can be the be the best defense against them.
