H. Donn de Yampert was up and at ‘em early one morning last week, to capture a few scenes before sunrise in Ripley and Hancock. He starts us out with a beautiful view of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, lighting up the canal with reflections of the bridge lights. Then he turns toward the horizon to capture the sun just brightening the sky as it’s beginning to come up for the day. Just simply beautiful.
After those shots, he headed into downtown Hancock and snapped a couple photos of the former D&N Building from the front and then from the back side of the building, too. The building is 135 feet high and consists of 54,600 square feet of reflective glass. The cylindrical section is made with 17,000 pounds of copper laminated to steel and was built in 1972. I’m not sure what businesses currently are located in this building, so if anyone can fill in the blanks for that, please do!
Visit Kewenaw’s latest “Crossing Place” video features Alexis Dahl, and if you’re a regular here on the Pasty Cam, you know who she is. The lead-in to the video says: “Science communicator and YouTube creator Alexis Dahl is drawn back time and again by the Keweenaw’s ancient landscapes and rich industrial past. From billion-year-old rock formations to copper-boom history, she shows how science and history aren’t just buried in the ground - they’re alive and accessible to every curious Copper Country visitor.”

Beautiful pictures. I love early morning, late evening pictures.
I know that Huntington Bank is in there on the bottom floor. After that I'm not sure.

Nice set of pics, H. Donn de Yampert! Too busy this morning to watch the video, but I like Alexis’ presentations and will definitely watch it later on today.

Consider again that Dot. That's here, that's home, that's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives ... on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The "Former D&N Building - Front" picture is actually a picture of the clock tower and ME Building at Michigan Tech.

I wondered Curt....I was trying to figure out where that was and I knew that was not at D&N..but that is on Tech's webcams.

Oops...thanks for the correction, Curt! I just assumed it was the D&N building, as I didn't have any info from the photographer as to what and where. It sure is a beautiful scene with the clock and lights! Thanks again!

I didn't think that was correct, but with the dark, I just wasn't sure. Thanks for letting us know what it was.

Mary, Your welcome for the correction. I have enjoying visiting your website daily for many years now, and this is the only mistake I have ever noticed. That is an excellent record! Keep up the good work! And yes, the picture is a beautiful scene.
